How to Write Hooks and Captions for AI Content That Goes Viral

The best AI-generated image or video in the world still needs a reason for someone to stop scrolling and a reason to keep watching. That reason almost never comes from the visual alone — it comes from the words around it.

Why the Hook Matters More Than the Prompt

A striking AI image earns a half-second glance. A strong hook earns the next three seconds — and the algorithm is measuring exactly that window to decide whether to show your post to more people. The visual gets attention; the hook decides whether that attention turns into a completed view.

Five Hook Formulas That Work Across Any AI Content Style

01

The Question Hook

Formula

Open with a question your viewer can't help but silently answer.

Example

"What would you do if you woke up here?"

02

The Contradiction Hook

Formula

Show something that looks wrong or unexpected for the format the viewer expects.

Example

"This isn't real — it's 100% AI."

03

The Countdown Hook

Formula

Promise a specific number of things and open on the most surprising one first.

Example

"5 AI worlds you didn't know you could generate — #1 is the wildest."

04

The Visual-Mismatch Hook

Formula

Pair an ordinary caption with an extraordinary first frame so the image does the hooking.

Example

Caption: "just a normal Tuesday" over a surreal cinematic scene.

05

The Unfinished-Thought Hook

Formula

Start a sentence in the caption or voiceover and cut it off right before the payoff.

Example

"The prompt that got me 2 million views was..."

Structuring a Caption That Keeps People Watching

A caption has one job beyond the hook itself: create an open loop. Give the viewer a reason to keep watching to find out how the sentence, question, or idea resolves — and resolve it in the video or image sequence, not in the caption text. If the caption answers everything, there's no reason to watch past the first frame.

Keep hashtags minimal and specific — two or three that actually describe the content beats ten generic ones. Broad tags like #fyp rarely move the needle; a specific tag tied to your niche helps the right audience find you and signals the algorithm what your content is actually about.

Match the Hook to the Visual, Not Just the Topic

The strongest hooks are written after you already know what the AI-generated image or video looks like — not before. Generate the visual first with Zyvo's AI image generator or AI video generator, then write a hook that plays directly off what's actually in the first frame — a contrast, a detail, or a question the image itself raises.

Start With the Visual

Generate your next piece of AI content, then use one of these five hook formulas to write the caption that earns it a real chance at going viral.
